Life Path Number

The life path number is the most important number in a numerology chart. It is calculated by reducing your full date of birth to a single digit or a master number, and it describes the broad direction and lessons of your life.

How it's calculated

  1. Write your full date of birth in numbers, for example 14 March 1990 becomes 14, 3, and 1990.
  2. Reduce the day, the month, and the year each to a single digit, keeping 11 and 22 as they are.
  3. Add the three results together and reduce again, keeping 11, 22, and 33 as master numbers.

Example 14 March 1990: the day 14 becomes 1 + 4 = 5, the month is 3, the year 1990 becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1. Adding 5 + 3 + 1 gives 9, so the life path number is 9.

Common questions

Is the life path number the same as the destiny number?
No. The life path number comes from your date of birth, while the destiny number comes from the letters of your full name. They answer different questions about you.
Can a life path number be 11, 22, or 33?
Yes. These are master numbers, and most numerologists do not reduce them further. A total of 11, 22, or 33 stays as it is instead of becoming 2, 4, or 6.
Does my life path number ever change?
No. Because it is calculated from your date of birth, it stays the same for life. Numbers that describe timing, like the personal year, change instead.
