Digit Reduction
Digit reduction, also called digit summing, is the basic operation behind nearly every numerology calculation: add a number's digits together, and keep adding the digits of the result, until only a single digit is left. The one standard exception is a master number — 11, 22, or 33 — which most numerologists keep unreduced rather than collapsing further.
How it's calculated
- Add together every digit in the number.
- If the result is more than one digit, add its digits together again.
- Repeat until a single digit remains, unless the result is 11, 22, or 33.
Example 38 reduces to 3 + 8 = 11, and since 11 is a master number, most numerologists stop there instead of reducing it to 2.
