Destiny Number

The destiny number, also called the expression number, is the sum of every letter in your full birth-certificate name. Each letter is converted to a number using the Pythagorean chart, and the total is reduced to a single digit, keeping master numbers. It points to your natural talents and what you are here to do.

How it's calculated

  1. Write out your full birth-certificate name, first, middle, and last.
  2. Convert every letter to a number using the Pythagorean chart, where A=1, B=2, up to I=9, then J=1 again.
  3. Add every value together and reduce to a single digit, keeping 11, 22, and 33 as master numbers.

Example John Smith: J(1)+O(6)+H(8)+N(5)+S(1)+M(4)+I(9)+T(2)+H(8) adds up to 44, which reduces to 4 + 4 = 8. The destiny number is 8.

Common questions

Is the destiny number the same as the life path number?
No. The life path number comes from your date of birth. The destiny number comes from the letters of your full birth name, so the two rarely match.
Which name should I use to calculate it?
Your full name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate, including any middle names. Nicknames and married names are not used for this calculation.
Can the destiny number be a master number?
Yes. If the total before the final reduction is 11, 22, or 33, most numerologists keep it as a master number instead of reducing it further.
