Personal Year

The personal year is a cycle number from 1 to 9 that changes every year and describes the theme of that year for you personally. It is calculated from your day and month of birth combined with the current calendar year, moving through a repeating nine-year cycle.

How it's calculated

  1. Reduce your day of birth and your month of birth each to a single digit.
  2. Reduce the current calendar year to a single digit, for example 2026 becomes 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, then 1.
  3. Add the three digits and reduce the total to a single digit from 1 to 9.

Example Born 14 March, in 2026: the day gives 1 + 4 = 5, the month gives 3, the year gives 1. Adding 5 + 3 + 1 gives 9, so 2026 is a personal year 9.

Common questions

When does the personal year change?
Most numerologists switch it on 1 January, with the new energy building around your birthday. A minority count birthday to birthday instead.
Can a personal year be a master number?
Some numerologists keep 11 and 22 as master personal years; others always reduce to 1 through 9. Both readings describe the same underlying cycle.
How is it different from the universal year?
The universal year reduces only the calendar year and is the same for everyone. The personal year adds your birth day and month, so it is personal to you.
