Transit Letters

Transit letters work through the letters of your full name in order, with each letter active for as many years as its numerology value — A is active for one year, B for two, and so on. As one letter's years run out, the next letter in the name becomes active, and the letters active during a given year color that year's essence number. This is an advanced chart element.

How it's calculated

  1. List the letters of your name in order.
  2. Assign each letter its Pythagorean value, which is also the number of years it stays active.
  3. Starting from birth, move through the letters in sequence, each taking over once the previous letter's years are used up.

Example If the first letter is J (value 1), it is active for the first year of life. The second letter, O (value 6), then becomes active and stays active for the next six years.

Common questions

Why does the letter's value control how long it is active?
Tradition ties the numerology value of each letter to the length of its influence, so higher-value letters like I or R stay active longer than lower-value letters like A or J.
What is the transit letters idea used for?
Mainly to calculate the essence number, which sums the values of whichever letters are currently active to describe the theme of a given year.
Is this the same across every numerology system?
No. Methods vary on whether to use the first name or the full name, so results can differ slightly between numerologists using this advanced technique.
