Planes of Expression

The planes of expression classify every letter of the full name into one of four groups — physical, mental, emotional, or intuitive — based on the letter's traditional associations. Counting how many letters fall into each group shows which ways of processing life come most naturally to you, and which are less developed. This is an advanced chart section.

How it's calculated

  1. List every letter of the full birth name.
  2. Sort each letter into one of four planes: physical, mental, emotional, or intuitive, using the traditional letter groupings.
  3. Count the letters in each plane; the plane with the most letters is the most emphasized.

Example A name with many letters in the mental plane (such as A, E, I, or M) and few in the emotional plane suggests someone who leans on thinking things through rather than feeling them out.

Common questions

What do the four planes represent?
Physical relates to action and the senses, mental to thought and analysis, emotional to feelings, and intuitive to instinct and insight. Most names emphasize some planes more than others.
Is having an empty plane a problem?
No. Numerologists read an empty or light plane as an area that takes more conscious effort, not a flaw. Everyone's letter distribution is uneven.
How does this relate to the destiny number?
Both come from the letters of the full name. The destiny number sums the letters to one core number, while the planes of expression instead group the letters by type.
