Balance Number

The balance number is the sum of the initials of your full birth name, reduced to a single digit. It describes how you instinctively respond when things get stressful or conflict shows up. It is considered a minor chart number, adding detail rather than a core theme.

How it's calculated

  1. Write down the first letter of each name in your full birth name.
  2. Convert each initial to a number using the Pythagorean chart.
  3. Add the values together and reduce to a single digit.

Example John Smith: the initials are J(1) and S(1), adding up to 2. The balance number is 2.

Common questions

Is the balance number a major or minor number in a chart?
It is a minor number. It adds a supporting detail about coping style rather than describing your overall purpose or talents.
How is it different from the personality number?
The personality number uses every consonant in your name. The balance number uses only the first letter of each name, so it is a much smaller sample.
What does a low or high balance number mean?
There is no better or worse number here. Each digit from 1 to 9 simply describes a different instinctive style for handling stress.
