Arabic Geomancy

Ilm al-Raml — the Science of the Sand — is the medieval Arabic art of divination through binary figures drawn in sand. Sixteen figures, each a pattern of single and double dots, carry the wisdom of planets, zodiac signs, and elements. From Arabia, this system traveled to Africa, where it became Ifa, and to Europe, where it became geomancy.
